Safeguarding

Ensuring a Safe Church for All

“The Church of Scotland has a deep concern for the wholeness and wellbeing of each individual. Through its Congregations, working together with the Safeguarding Service and statutory agencies, the Church seeks to safeguard the welfare of all people who come into contact with the Church and its services. The Gospel proclaims that it’s the responsibility of everyone within the fellowship of the Church to prevent harm, be it physical, sexual or emotional, and we will always seek to reduce risk. The Church’s commitment to safeguarding reminds us that God cares passionately about the welfare and wellbeing of all people.” (Church of Scotland Safeguarding Policy Statement, 2010)

At Milton of Campsie Parish Church we take Safeguarding very seriously. Nobody is allowed to volunteer in a regulated role in any of our children’s or young people’s and/or protected adults groups without completing the Safer Recruitment policy. This ensures that they have been through a strict vetting procedure including an Enhanced Disclosure check in line with the Disclosure Scotland Act 2020.

We have a clear policy in place if a child, young person or vulnerable adult discloses information to any of our volunteers. We take seriously our obligation to pass on any concerns we may have over their wellbeing but seek to act sensitively at all times.

Our Safeguarding Co-ordinator is Jim McVean, who can be contacted on 07867 976862 on local safeguarding matters or you can visit the Safeguarding Office pages within The Church of Scotland website.
